Established in 2008, we are the oldest Latin dance school specializing in Latin, Afro, and Caribbean dances on the island and the only one with Caribbean dance teachers. We invite you to explore the vibrant rhythms of these cultures under the guidance of our professional instructors.
Our primary goal is to offer every student the opportunity to enjoy dancing, regardless of age, gender, or skill level. Our founder

Niurys Oliveras Alvarez


Niurys Oliveras Alvarez is a professional dancer and dance teacher from Cuba, residing on Madeira Island since 2005. She began her professional journey at 18, performing on stages in Cuba, and has since become a prominent figure on Madeira, frequently featured in television programs showcasing her dance skills. One of her notable contributions is bringing the television show “Noite de Estrelas” to RTP Madeira, where she not only helped with its production but also served as the presenter. To this day, she remains a dedicated collaborator with RTP Madeira.


Niurys plays a pivotal role in the Afro-Latin dance scene on Madeira Island. As the CEO and founder of Open Dance Academia, she is deeply committed to inspiring and encouraging everyone to explore the benefits of dance. For nearly 20 years, Open Dance Academia has been her pride and joy. Under her leadership, the school attracts top-tier teachers who act as ambassadors of dance to her students. Niurys also organizes events and gatherings to foster a vibrant dance community, providing opportunities for both foreign visitors and local residents to enjoy dance and leisure activities.
